Florennes Air Show Arrivals 2012
By Frank Grealish | 21st & 22nd June 2012 | In Flight, Belgium
In June 2012, the Belgian Air Force organised the Florennes International Air Show. In the days leading up to the air show, I joined the Aviation PhotoCrew to do some air-to-air photography with some of the aircraft arriving at Florennes.
F-16 Fighting Falcons from three countries appeared behind the Skyvan photoship that week, namely the Hellenic Air Force F-16 Solo Display "Zeus", the RNLAF F-16 Solo Display, with both the specially painted Viper and the standard grey backup aircraft; we were also joined by a Royal Danish Air Force single seater and a twin-seater, with the single seater sporting a nicely painted tail.
The RNLAF Vipers flew behind the Skyvan with smoke; they also did some breaks and flew alongside. The Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation brought their two-seater Hunter, and for a few minutes it was joined in formation by the RNLAF Vipers, complete with smoke, such a nice sight.
A pair of Austrian Air Force Pilatus PC-7 trainers joined up, one of them in a special green snake colour scheme marking 20 years of service with the air force. The biggest aircraft to join up with the Skyvan that week was an RNLAF Chinook. It was quite a sight seeing the Chinook up close and personal, the blade slap could even be heard in the cabin.
Thanks to the Aviation PhotoCrew for the opportunity to join the photoflight, and thanks of course to all the aircraft & pilots who flew for the cameras that week.
