Vulcan Jubilee Tour 2012
By Frank Grealish | 29th September 2012 | In Flight, UK - England
On Saturday 29th September 2012, to commemorate Sixty Glorious Years of the Avro Vulcan, Vulcan XH558 flew a 3-hour sortie over various locations around the UK that have some association with the Vulcan. This was also to be the Vulcan's last flight before entering winter servicing.
I was fortunate enough to have been invited to take part in an air to air photoshoot with XH558, flying out of Staverton, Gloucestershire, using a Cessna Caravan as a photoship. This, as it turns out, was the first of three air-to-air photoshoots I was fortunate enough to do with the Vulcan.
As with all air-to-air photoshoots, many things can go wrong that cause the mission to be scrubbed, so when we saw the Vulcan turning in behind us and slowly approach the Caravan, it was game on. The sun played ball and came out when it was needed, and as you'll see from the pictures, the Vulcan made for an impressive sight alongside the Caravan.
A big thank you goes to Evert & Laurens for the invite, and VTTS of course for letting us photograph the Vulcan.
